Debi moved to Charlottesville as a teenager from Ghana almost 20 years ago. She has since called Charlottesville her home aside from a brief stint in Harrisonburg where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from James Madison University in 2012. Debi then went on to get her masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Touro University.
Since high school, Debi has aspired to help people and families resolve their conflicts, and becoming a therapist felt like a natural calling. Over the years, Debi has worked with many diverse groups of people in various settings such as schools, work, and within the community at large. She particularly enjoys working with couples, teens, and adult individuals, and has specialized training in how to manage ADHD, anxiety, parenting struggles, trauma, and life transitions. Debi enjoys working with her clients through a trauma informed, IFS, DBT, and EFT lens. Debi believes communication is key, and feels that most any problem can be explored and resolved with partnership and collaboration. Debi is also a bilingual therapist, and is able to provide services in English and Ewe. She also brings a multicultural perspective from her African upbringing, and is particularly interested in working with members of multicultural communities.
Debi is a Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy and is being supervised by Christine Bowers.
When she is not working, Debi likes to travel, volunteer, hang out with family and friends, and get lost in movies and tv shows. Additionally, she likes to play sports like tennis, kickball, and softball, and enjoys spending time outdoors.
