Raised in Charlottesville, Emily attended Emory University in Atlanta for her undergraduate degree in Anthropology and Creative Writing then spent time exploring different cities, possible career paths, and interests. With a variety of self-exploration and experiences under her belt, Emily eventually decided to return to Virginia to enroll in Virginia Commonwealth University’s Masters of Social Work graduate program. Instead of viewing her many ups and downs as strictly victories or failures, she views them as opportunities for growth and enrichment that lead her to her current path.

Emily’s decision to pursue social work was influenced by her interest in creating equitable access to mental health resources and reducing stigma around care. She intimately understands and applauds the courage and resilience it takes to seek help when you’re unwell, suffering, or feeling out-of-sorts. She also knows firsthand how difficult it can be to take the first step towards healing and, utilizing a strengths-based approach, invites her clients to not only work through their challenges but also celebrate their strengths and triumphs. Always with a healthy dose of creativity and curiosity, Emily employs techniques like art and play therapies, motivational interviewing, and theories on attachment styles, family structures, and other interpersonal dynamics.

Outside of work, Emily is committed to creating community through a position on a city council commission and (poorly) singing and (enthusiastically) dancing with a local band. She also enjoys reading, arts and crafts, and cuddling with her cat.
